A little about me

Hi, I’m Laura.

And believe me, I know what it’s like to have a life that looks absolutely fine on paper, but still feel like something isn’t quite right.

I’ve been there.

I’ve had times in my life when I’ve looked around and thought, “I’ve got so much to be grateful for, so why don’t I feel happier?”

A loving partner, four wonderful children, a home, a good life. All the things I’d wanted for so long.

But there was still this feeling that something was missing. And for a while, I couldn’t put my finger on what it was.

The strange thing was, I thought I needed to change everything around me to feel better.

Turns out, that wasn’t quite the answer.

Life hasn’t always been straightforward

Like most people, I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs.

I’ve been through unhealthy relationships, experienced times when my confidence was practically non-existent and spent far too long questioning whether I was good enough.

Those experiences stay with you, sometimes in ways you don’t even realise.

When I eventually found myself in a happy, loving relationship, with someone who genuinely cared about me, I thought everything would just fall into place.

But it wasn’t quite that simple.

I’d spent so long being used to things going wrong that when life finally felt settled, I didn’t really know what to do with it.

And then there was work.

I’d built a career I was proud of, and when I stepped away from it to focus on family life, I didn’t expect to miss that part of myself quite so much.

I loved being a mum, but I missed having something that was mine. I missed the independence, the challenge and, if I’m being completely truthful, feeling like I was more than just the person everyone needed something from.

There were times when I genuinely thought I needed to walk away from everything and start again.

But the more I started looking at my life, the more I realised that perhaps it wasn’t my life I needed to change.

Perhaps I needed to change how I was looking at it.

Finding my way back to me

I won’t pretend there was some magical moment when everything suddenly clicked into place.

There wasn’t.

It took time, some uncomfortable conversations with myself and learning to be a bit kinder to the person looking back at me in the mirror.

I started making more time for myself, paying attention to how I was feeling and questioning some of the things I’d believed about myself for years.

I stopped thinking that happiness was always waiting around the next corner, after the next achievement or when something else in my life changed.

And I began to realise something.

I could be happy with the life I had and still want things for myself.

The two didn’t have to be at odds with each other.

I could love my family and still need time on my own. I could appreciate everything I’d achieved and still have ambitions. And I could enjoy where I was in life without feeling like I was standing still.

That was a big turning point for me.

Not because my life suddenly became perfect, but because I stopped expecting it to be.

So, why Real Conversations?

Because I know how much difference it can make when you’ve got someone you can just talk to.

Not someone who’s going to tell you what you’re doing wrong, give you a list of things you need to change or make you feel like you should have your life sorted by now.

Just someone who’ll listen, ask a few questions and give you the space to work through what’s going on in your head.

Sometimes we spend so much time looking after everyone else, keeping everything ticking over and putting on a brave face that we forget to check in with ourselves.

And sometimes we don’t even realise how much we’ve been carrying until we finally say it out loud.

That’s why I created Real Conversations.

I’ve completed Level 3 and Level 4 training in Therapy and Counselling, which has taught me a great deal about listening, understanding people and creating a space where someone feels comfortable being themselves.

But I’m not offering therapy or counselling.

I’m offering real, honest, supportive conversations.

Whether you’re feeling a bit lost, struggling with your confidence, questioning where you’re heading or simply feeling like there’s something you need to get off your chest, you don’t have to have all the answers before we talk.

And when I’m not working?

I’m a mum of four, a partner, a sister and someone who loves nothing more than spending time with the people I love.

Give me a good laugh, a proper catch-up, a cuppa and a bit of time to myself every now and again, and I’m happy.

I still have days when things don’t go to plan. I still overthink things occasionally. And I’m certainly not going to pretend I’ve got life completely figured out.

But I’ve learnt to appreciate the little things a lot more, stop putting so much pressure on myself and enjoy the life that’s happening right now.

Because life isn’t just about getting somewhere.

It’s about enjoying a bit of the journey too.
